Affiliate marketing · Beginner guide
Eight beginner friendly affiliate programs, with the real commission rates, cookie windows, and approval rules from each program's own page.
The best affiliate programs for beginners are free to join, pay you every month the customer stays, and sell a tool you would use yourself. That last part matters most. It is much easier to recommend something you already know.
I have done affiliate marketing since I started online in May 2019. Below are eight programs I think are a good fit for beginners. Every rate and rule comes from the program's own page, checked on October 19, 2026. Terms change, so check the page again before you join. I do not include any affiliate links in this post, so you can compare them freely.
Quick answer
Good affiliate programs for beginners include systeme.io (60% lifetime recurring, no application), Kit (50% for 12 months), beehiiv (up to 60% for a year), HighLevel (40% recurring), HubSpot (30% recurring for up to a year, 180-day cookie), Semrush ($100 to $300 per sale, 120-day cookie), Shopify (up to $150 per qualified referral), and the ClickBank marketplace. Start with one tool you already use.
What makes a program good for beginners
A high rate is nice, but it is not the whole story. Here is what I look for when I am just starting:
- Free to join. You should never have to buy an expensive package just to get a link.
- Recurring pay. Software that bills monthly can pay you every month the customer stays.
- A long cookie. The cookie window is how long after the click you still get credit. Longer is better.
- Easy approval. Some programs approve anyone. Others review your site or channel first.
- A product you use. Your honest review will beat any sales copy.

1. systeme.io: best if you have no audience yet
systeme.io is an all-in-one tool for funnels, email, and courses. It has a free plan, which makes it easy for your readers to try.
- Commission: 60% on every sale, lifetime recurring.
- Cookie: lifetime. The page says referrals are tagged to you permanently.
- Approval: none. Anyone can join for free.
- Payout: PayPal or wire, monthly on the 10th, with a $30 minimum.
The page says these are "Terms as of April 2026," so confirm them in your dashboard.

2. Kit: best for newsletter and creator content
Kit, once called ConvertKit, is email software for creators.
- Commission: 50% for the first 12 months of each referred customer.
- After 12 months: 10% to 20% ongoing if you reach Bronze, Silver, or Gold status.
- Approval: you apply. Kit says most applications are reviewed within 2 to 3 business days.
- Good to know: referrals from paid ads do not count toward your status level.
3. beehiiv: best if you write a newsletter
beehiiv is a newsletter platform. If you already use it, this one is easy to talk about.
- Commission: up to 60% for a full year. Your first sale puts you at 50%, and the rate climbs to 55% and 60% as you refer more.
- For your referrals: a 14-day trial plus 20% off the first 3 months.
- Approval: you apply.
4. HighLevel: best for agency and local business content
HighLevel is the CRM and marketing platform many agencies use. This blog runs on its website and blog tools.
- Commission: HighLevel's affiliate page says 40% recurring commissions.
- Best fit: people who make content for agencies, coaches, or local businesses.
I am a HighLevel affiliate myself. I wrote a full walk-through in my HighLevel affiliate program guide.
5. HubSpot: best long cookie for business content
HubSpot is a big name in CRM and marketing software.
- Commission: 30% recurring for up to one year.
- Cookie: 180 days.
- Approval: you apply, and HubSpot says it will contact you within 2 to 3 business days.

6. Semrush: best one-time payout for SEO content
Semrush is an SEO and marketing research tool. It pays a set amount per sale, not a monthly cut.
- Commission: $100 to $300 for every sale, plus $10 for every free trial.
- Cookie: 120 days.
- Approval: you apply through a form on its page.
7. Shopify: best for ecommerce content
Shopify is the store builder. If your audience wants to sell products online, it fits.
- Commission: up to $150 per qualified referral. The amount depends on where the referral lives.
- What counts: sign ups to the Basic, Grow, or Advanced paid plans.
- Caps: Shopify says there are no commission caps.
8. ClickBank: a marketplace with thousands of products
ClickBank is not one product. It is a marketplace where many sellers list digital products for affiliates to promote. I cover its rules and fees in my ClickBank review. For a network where you apply to each brand's program, see my CJ Affiliate guide.
- Commission: it varies by product. ClickBank lists 90% as a potential commission.
- Approval: you sign up for a free account.
- Be picky: ClickBank says it vets products and tracks refund rates. Still, check each product yourself before you put your name on it.
My video: I show how affiliate links work with Amazon Associates, ClickBank, and Digistore24. The video says 2026 in the title but first went up in January 2023, so check current terms on each program's page.
Any results mentioned in videos are not typical and are not a promise of income. Your results depend on your work and your market.
Recurring or one-time: which is better?
Recurring programs pay you each month the customer keeps paying. One-time programs, like Semrush and Shopify, pay a set amount once per sale or sign up.
Neither is always better. Recurring pay can stack up slowly over time if your referrals stay. One-time pay comes faster but stops after the sale. Many affiliates mix both. As a beginner, I would start with whichever product you can explain best.
Where to share your link as a beginner
You do not need a big following. You need a few helpful pieces of content in the right place. Good starting spots:
- Short videos. A quick screen recording of you using the tool. See my guide to TikTok affiliate marketing for beginners.
- Pinterest. You can put your link right on a Pin, as I explain in my guide to Pinterest affiliate marketing.
- A simple blog or newsletter. Tutorials and honest reviews keep working long after you post them.
- Answers in groups and forums. Help first. Share your link only where the rules allow it.

Programs to be careful with
Most good programs are free to join. Be careful with any program that makes you buy an expensive package before you can promote it. Also watch out for products with big income promises, lots of refunds, or no real support page. If you would not buy it for a friend, do not promote it.
How to choose your first program
Do not join all eight. Pick one and learn it well.
- List the tools you already use. Start there.
- Match your audience. Agency folks want HighLevel. Writers want Kit or beehiiv. Store owners want Shopify.
- Read the terms page. Look for the rate, the cookie window, and any rules about ads.
- Make one helpful piece of content. A tutorial or honest review is a great start.

Always disclose your links
This part is not optional. The FTC says to disclose your relationship "clearly and conspicuously" so readers can decide how much weight to give your words. It also says the words "affiliate link" by themselves may not be clear enough. A simple line works, like the one the FTC suggests: "I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post."

Frequently asked questions
What is the best affiliate program for a total beginner?
If you have no audience yet, a free-to-join program with no application, like systeme.io, is the easiest start. The best choice is a tool you already use, because your honest review will be easier to write.
Which affiliate programs pay recurring commissions?
Of the programs in this post, systeme.io (lifetime), Kit (12 months, then more with status), beehiiv (one year), HighLevel, and HubSpot (up to one year) all list recurring commissions on their own pages, checked October 19, 2026.
What is a cookie window?
It is how long after someone clicks your link you still get credit for the sale. HubSpot lists 180 days and Semrush lists 120 days. systeme.io says its attribution is lifetime.
Do I need a website to join affiliate programs?
Not always. systeme.io lets anyone join. Others, like Kit, HubSpot, and Semrush, ask you to apply and may want to see where you will promote.
How much money can I make as a beginner affiliate?
There is no set amount, and results are not guaranteed. It depends on your audience, your content, and the product.
Do I have to disclose affiliate links?
Yes. The FTC says to disclose clearly and conspicuously, close to your links, so readers know you may earn a commission.
