ChatGPT Pricing: Free, Go, Plus, Pro, and Business Explained

AI Tools · Pricing

ChatGPT now has five main ways to pay, from free to $500 a month. Here is what each plan costs, what changes as you go up, and how to pick.

ChatGPT used to be simple: free or $20 a month. Now there are more choices, including a cheaper Go plan, three levels of Pro, and Business seats for teams.

On October 24, 2026, I went through OpenAI's pricing page for individuals and businesses, plus its help articles on Pro tiers and ads. Here is what each plan costs and how to pick the right one.

Quick answer

On October 24, 2026, ChatGPT had four plans for individuals. Free was $0, Go was $8 a month, Plus was $20 a month, and Pro started at $100 a month, with Pro 200 and Pro 500 above it. Business seats were $25 a month billed monthly or $20 billed yearly. OpenAI says ads may appear on Free and Go, but not on Plus or higher.

ChatGPT plans and prices

Here is the individual pricing page on October 24, 2026:

  • Free: $0 a month. "Intelligence for everyday tasks."
  • Go: $8 a month. "Expanded access."
  • Plus: $20 a month. "Do more with advanced intelligence."
  • Pro: from $100 a month. "Maximize your productivity."

For teams, there is also Business and Enterprise. I cover those below.

ChatGPT Free: what you get for $0

The Free plan is good for trying ChatGPT and for light use. The page lists unlimited text chats, but other features are limited:

  • Limited messages with uploads
  • Limited image creation
  • Limited voice chats and deep research
  • Limited memory

The page notes that unlimited text chats are "subject to abuse guardrails." And OpenAI says ads may show on this plan. More on that below.

ChatGPT Go: the $8 plan

Go sits between Free and Plus. The page says it includes "Everything in Free and" more messages with tools, more uploads, more image creation, more voice chats, and longer memory.

The catch is ads. The Go card says "This plan may include ads."

Go makes sense if you use ChatGPT a lot for simple tasks and keep hitting Free limits, but you do not need the advanced models in Plus.

ChatGPT Plus: the $20 plan

Plus is the main paid plan for individuals. The page says it includes "Everything in Go and" more:

  • Advanced reasoning models
  • Expanded messages, uploads, and deep research
  • Better image creation
  • "Projects, scheduled tasks, and custom GPTs"
  • Expanded Codex use for coding
  • Early access to new features

Plus also has no ads. OpenAI's help center says "Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu accounts will not have ads."

The page notes "Limits apply," so Plus is not unlimited for every feature.

ChatGPT Pro: three levels

Pro is for heavy users. It now comes in three levels. Here is the table from OpenAI's help article:

OpenAI help article Pro plans table: Pro 100 at $100 a month, Pro 200 at $200, and Pro 500 at $500, with Ultrafast included only on Pro 500
Screenshot: help.openai.com, About ChatGPT Pro tiers, captured Oct 24, 2026
  • Pro 100: $100 a month.
  • Pro 200: $200 a month, with more usage than Pro 100.
  • Pro 500: $500 a month, with the most usage.

The help article says "Among Pro plans, Ultrafast is available only on Pro 500." It also says you choose from "three monthly Pro plans," so Pro is billed monthly.

The pricing page lists Pro perks like Pro reasoning, longer coding sessions, "Unlimited and faster image creation," and "Maximum deep research."

A note for Pro 200 users

OpenAI changed Pro 200 in the fall. New Pro 200 subscriptions get a lower usage allowance than before. If you had Pro 200 between September 22 and September 29, 2026, the help article says you can keep the old allowance "through October 29, 2026." The price stays $200.

ChatGPT Plus vs Pro: which one?

This is a common question. Here is the simple way to think about it.

Pick Plus if you:

  • Use ChatGPT every day for writing, research, and ideas.
  • Rarely hit your limits.
  • Want strong value at $20.

Pick Pro if you:

  • Hit Plus limits often, especially on deep research or coding.
  • Use ChatGPT for long, complex work most of the day.
  • Can tie the cost to real time saved at work.

Pro 100 costs five times as much as Plus. Start on Plus. Only move up if you keep running out and it is slowing you down.

Tip: Before you upgrade, watch how often you hit a limit for two weeks. If it is once in a while, Plus is fine. If it is every day, Pro may pay for itself in saved time.

Which ChatGPT plans have ads?

OpenAI's help center says: "Ads may appear for users on the Free and Go plans."

It also says "Ad testing started in the United States on February 9, 2026," and is rolling out to more places over time. OpenAI says it does not show ads to accounts it identifies as belonging to people under 18.

If you want no ads, the cheapest way is Plus at $20 a month.

ChatGPT Business and Enterprise pricing

For teams, the Business pricing tab showed two seat types on October 24, 2026:

  • Standard seat: "$20/month if billed annually. $25/month if billed monthly."
  • Premium seat: "$100/month if billed annually. $125/month if billed monthly."

You can mix and match seat types. The FAQ says "Business plans are available starting at 2 users." Enterprise has custom pricing through sales.

Discounts worth knowing

  • Nonprofits: the FAQ says nonprofits "can now access up to a 75% discount on ChatGPT Business or ChatGPT Enterprise."
  • Teachers: the FAQ says ChatGPT for Teachers is a free plan for verified U.S. K to 12 educators through June 2027.

If you run a small business, my guide on ChatGPT for small business shows practical ways to use it.

Which ChatGPT plan should you pick?

  • Free: you are trying it out or use it a few times a week.
  • Go: you hit Free limits but only need basic help, and ads do not bother you.
  • Plus: you use it daily, want no ads, and want the better models and tools.
  • Pro: you are a heavy user who keeps hitting Plus limits.
  • Business: you have a team of 2 or more and want shared, managed workspaces.

Monthly cost over a year

  • Go: $8 x 12 is $96 a year.
  • Plus: $20 x 12 is $240 a year.
  • Pro 100: $100 x 12 is $1,200 a year.
  • Business Standard for 3 people on yearly billing: $20 x 3 x 12 is $720 a year.

How to spend less on ChatGPT

A few simple habits can keep your bill low:

  1. Start on the lowest plan that works. You can always upgrade the same day you hit a wall.
  2. Use Projects on Plus. Keeping files and chats together saves time you would spend pasting the same context again.
  3. Do not stack tools you do not use. If you pay for ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, check which one you open most. Drop the rest.
  4. Know where yearly billing applies. The FAQ says yearly plans are offered for Business and Enterprise, and Business Standard drops from $25 to $20 a seat.
  5. Review once a month. Look at what you used. If you upgraded for one big project, move back down when it ends.

The best plan is the one you use fully. A $20 plan you use every day is a better deal than a $100 plan you use twice a week.

Who should not pay at all

If you ask ChatGPT a few questions a week, write the odd email, or just want to see what the fuss is about, stay on Free. Try it for a month first. You will know quickly if you need more.

How to cancel or change plans

The Pro help article says to "Cancel through the platform where you purchased your subscription: ChatGPT, Apple or Google Play." Canceling stops future renewals, and you can normally keep using your plan until the end of the billing period.

One more tip from that article: "Uninstalling the ChatGPT app does not cancel your subscription."
