AI Tools · Pricing
Synthesia makes videos with AI avatars. Its pricing now runs on credits. Here is what each plan costs and what you actually get.
Synthesia lets you type a script and get a video with an AI presenter. No camera, no mic, no studio. Businesses use it for training and how-to videos.
Its pricing changed to a credit system, and the page can be confusing. I checked it on October 24, 2026. Here is each plan in plain words.
Quick answer
On October 24, 2026, Synthesia had four plans. Basic is free with 500 credits a month and a watermark. Starter is $14 a month billed yearly, with 15,000 credits a year for up to about 150 minutes of video. Pro is $59 a month billed yearly, with 72,000 credits a year for up to about 720 minutes. Enterprise has custom pricing and unlimited video minutes.
Synthesia plans at a glance

All prices here come from Synthesia's pricing page on October 24, 2026, with the yearly view shown. Synthesia says "Save up to 4 months with yearly." The minute counts are on top of the free allowance.
Basic (free)
Price: $0 per month.
Synthesia's FAQ says "The Basic plan is free and includes 10 minutes of video, 3 survey responses and 500 credits every month, renewing each month."
The catch: on Basic, "Videos carry a Synthesia watermark." You can share videos online with a link, but downloading is listed as a Starter feature.
Good for: testing the tool and making a few practice videos before you pay.
Starter

Price: $14 per month, billed yearly. The page shows $19 crossed out next to it.
Credits: 15,000 credits a year. Synthesia says that is up to about 150 minutes of video a year, on top of the free allowance.
What you add over Basic:
- Download your content
- Remove the Synthesia logo
- AI Video Assistant
- 125+ Synthesia AI avatars
- 3 guests and chat or email support
Good for: a solo creator or small business making a handful of videos each month.
Pro
Price: $59 per month, billed yearly. The page shows $89 crossed out. The plan summary reads "$59/month, billed yearly."
Credits: 72,000 credits a year. Synthesia says that is up to about 720 minutes of video a year, on top of the free allowance.
What you add over Starter:
- 5 personal avatars
- Branded video pages and interactive videos
- 180+ Synthesia AI avatars
- 5 guests and priority support
Good for: a team that makes training or sales videos every week, or anyone who wants an avatar that looks like them.
Enterprise
Price: custom. You book a demo.
Enterprise lists unlimited video minutes, translations into 140+ languages, unlimited personal avatars, SAML and SSO, and a dedicated success manager.
Good for: large companies with large teams making videos.
How credits work
Synthesia now prices usage in credits. Different things use different amounts. The calculator on the pricing page showed these rates:
- Video: 100 credits per minute, with the first 10 minutes included on every plan.
- Dubbing: the FAQ says 80 credits per minute with lip-sync, or 40 without.
- Survey responses: 350 credits per response, with the first 3 included on every plan.
Synthesia also says these are "Estimates only." Avatars, B-roll, motion graphics, and dubbing can each count differently. So the minute counts are a guide, not a promise.
Here is a quick way to think about it. Starter's 15,000 credits a year at 100 credits per minute is about 150 minutes. That matches what Synthesia shows.
What Starter really gives you each month
This part surprised me, so I want to make it clear. Synthesia's FAQ says every plan includes 10 minutes of video each month. It says Starter adds 1,250 credits a month, which is "roughly 12 more minutes of typical video." That is about 22 minutes a month in total.
That is less if you spend credits on dubbing, surveys, or interactive avatars. So if you plan to make an hour of video every month, Starter will not cover it.
The FAQ also says credits are used "based on the avatar footage generated, not the length of the finished video." If the avatar is on screen the whole time, you use more.
One good thing: "Credits are used when something is generated, never while you're editing or previewing." And if you edit a few seconds of a video, the FAQ says you only pay for the new footage.
What happens if you run out?
The FAQ says video creation and survey responses pause until your plan renews. To keep going, you can buy extra credits or move to a plan with more.
Unused minutes do not roll over. Your monthly allowance and your plan's credits reset each billing period. On yearly plans, the year's credits are available up front. Credits you buy on their own are valid for 12 months.
Can you pay monthly?
Yes. Synthesia's FAQ says "For Starter and Pro plan users, the billing cycle can be monthly or annual."
The pricing page has a Monthly and Yearly switch. When I checked, the page loaded in the yearly view, and I could not capture the monthly prices. The crossed-out prices ($19 for Starter and $89 for Pro) may be the monthly rate, but check the Monthly tab on the live page before you buy.
The FAQ also says you cannot pay per video. Synthesia is based on monthly and yearly subscriptions.
Add-ons to know about
Synthesia also sells roleplay training seats for teams that want staff to practice with AI roleplays. Each seat was listed at $25 per learner a month on yearly billing, or $29 on monthly billing. You add seats to a plan.
Pro also comes in several credit levels. Synthesia says you can pick the credit volume that suits you. The $59 price is the level the page showed by default.
Which plan should you pick?
- Just curious? Start on Basic. Make a few test videos.
- Need to download videos without a watermark? Starter is the first plan that lists downloads and logo removal.
- Want an avatar of yourself? Pro lists 5 personal avatars.
- Big company with many creators? Talk to Enterprise.
Before you upgrade, write down how many minutes of video you really make in a month. Then compare it to each plan's yearly minutes.
Other AI video and voice tools
Synthesia is one option. If you are comparing, see my HeyGen pricing guide for another avatar tool. If you only need a voice, not a video, my ElevenLabs pricing guide covers that.
AI voice is also something you can offer to local businesses. I talk about that here:
My video: How I think about selling AI voice agents to businesses.
Any results mentioned in videos are not typical and are not a promise of income. Your results depend on your work and your market.
Is Synthesia worth it?
It depends on what you would do instead. If you would need to film yourself, set up lights, and do many takes, an AI presenter can save a lot of time. That is why it fits training videos, onboarding, and how-to clips that you update often.
It is a weaker fit if your brand is built on your real face and voice. People who follow you may want the real you. In that case, a phone and good light may be enough.
My advice: make three free videos on Basic. Show them to a few people. If they work for your goal, then pay.
Can you cancel or upgrade?
Yes to both, per Synthesia's FAQ. It says you can change plans, switch to annual billing, or adjust your Pro credit level any time from Settings, then Plan and billing. To cancel, you go to your account settings and cancel your plan.
Before you pick yearly billing, be sure you will use it for a full year. Yearly saves money only if you keep using the tool.
Tips to make your credits last
- Write the script first. Edit the words before you make the video, so you do not remake it.
- Keep videos short. Short videos use fewer credits and people finish them.
- Preview before you render. Catch typos and odd pauses early.
- Reuse templates. Set up a look once and use it again.
Mistakes to avoid
- Reading the yearly price as monthly billing. $14 a month is billed yearly.
- Expecting exact minutes. Synthesia calls its minute counts estimates.
- Paying for Pro too soon. Start small and move up when you need it.
