Grok Bot vs Claude: How It Compares to the Claude App and Claude Duet

October 28, 2026

Grok Bot · Comparison

Claude is the AI I trust for careful writing and building. Grok Bot is where my AI team runs. And now Claude has its own always on agent, Claude Duet. Here is how they really compare.

Grok Bot vs Claude is a fun comparison for me, because I use both every week. Claude is my go to for careful writing and deep work. Grok Bot is where my team of about 25 AI agents runs my business day to day.

The question got more interesting in late October 2026, when Anthropic announced Claude Duet, a proactive agent that works in the background. I read the official Claude Duet pages and the Grok Bot docs on October 28, 2026, and watched the newest head to head tests. Here is a fair look.

TL;DR

Grok Bot gives you a team of Bots, each with its own job, memory, skills, and routines, on a shared cloud computer you can watch and take over. The Claude app is a chat and work tool you sit down with. Claude Duet is Anthropic's new background agent with its own virtual machine and browser. It carries over your Claude memory, skills, and connectors, sends a morning brief, and checks your accounts at set intervals. As of October 28, 2026, Duet is a research preview with a waitlist for US Pro and Max users, and you cannot watch or take over its browser. Pick Grok Bot for a working team today. Pick Duet if you live in Claude and want a proactive helper with little setup.

There are really three things here

When people say "Claude," they can mean three different things. It helps to split them:

  1. The Claude app. The chat you sit down with on the web, desktop, or phone. Great for writing, thinking, and building.
  2. Claude Code. Anthropic's coding tool. Builders use it to write software.
  3. Claude Duet. The new proactive agent. It works in the background, even when you are away.

Grok Bot is closest to Duet. Both are agents with their own computer that keep working when you close the app. So most of this post compares those two. I cover the Claude app too, because that is what most of the early tests used.

What Claude Duet is

From Anthropic's own pages, in plain words:

  • Duet is a proactive agent you message like a person, on iPhone or Android. Each morning it sends a brief from your email and calendar, and it checks your accounts at set intervals.
  • Your main thread stays in one place. You can start separate channels for different topics, and they share the same memory.
  • It works on its own virtual machine with its own browser.
  • It carries over your memory, skills, and connectors from Claude, so it starts out knowing your setup. Anthropic says there are more than 6,000 connectors and plugins, including a small business plugin.
  • Finished work shows up in a Make tab.
  • It asks before it sends, pays, signs, or deletes. Some actions are off limits even with approval, like trading securities or moving money.
  • When a site asks for a password, you type it into a separate form on your device, designed to keep it out of your chat.

And the limits, also from Anthropic:

  • It is a research preview with a waitlist, for Pro and Max users in the US. It is not on Team or Enterprise plans yet.
  • You cannot watch or take over its browser in the preview.
  • It does not make phone calls or send texts.
  • Microsoft 365 is not available yet, and Slack support is limited.
  • It runs on Claude Opus 5.5, and you cannot pick a different model.

That is a careful, safety first start. I like that. It also means it is early.

What Grok Bot does differently

Grok Bot lets you make as many Bots as you want. Each Bot has a name, a job, its own memory, and its own skills and routines. They share one cloud computer, and you can open it to watch the browser or take over for a login. Bots can talk to each other and work together in group chats. You can reach them on desktop, on your phone, and in a Slack DM. If that is new, start with Grok Bot explained.

Like Duet, Grok Bot does not let you pick the model. Its help page says it uses "the backend model most likely to deliver the best outcome" for each task. So neither one gives you a model picker.

What the head to head tests found

Most early tests compared Grok Bot to the Claude app or Claude Code, since Duet only just arrived. Here is the honest summary.

Austin Marchese: 12 daily jobs

Austin ran Grok Bot and Claude through 12 daily use cases, split into operations, growth, and new ideas. His recap was clear. For operations, use Grok Bot for the quick, low stakes jobs, and Claude "for anything you want to actually collaborate on and get right." For growth, Grok Bot for fast experiments and Claude for building the real thing once you know it works.

He also loved the group chat idea in Grok Bot. Putting Bots in a group chat surfaced objections he had not thought of, and he used them on a landing page.

Simon Scrapes: Grok Bot vs his Claude Code setup

Simon was impressed by the teammate model and how easy it is to chat with different Bots on your phone. He felt that in some ways it is a step forward from Claude Code. His fair warning: a new Bot does not have your context yet. "It's faster to start, but slower to probably get right with your context." Note his video is from August, so a few points have changed since. For example, Grok Bot now has voice chat.

From the Simon Scrapes channel (not mine): Simon Scrapes tests Grok Bot against his Claude setup, shows the teammate model and teach by demo, and is honest about the limits he hit.

How I use both

I do not see this as either or. Here is my real split:

  • Claude for careful writing, long thinking, and building software.
  • Grok Bot for the team: research, reports, inbox triage, follow ups, and anything on a schedule.

Pat Simmons said the same about coding in his test. He would not trust Grok Bot for day to day coding, and suggested asking your Bot how to hand big coding jobs to a coding tool instead. That is a smart split.

How to pick in 4 questions

  1. Do you need it today? Grok Bot is available now. Duet is a waitlist preview in the US.
  2. Do you want a team or one helper? Many Bots with their own jobs points to Grok Bot.
  3. Is Claude already full of your context? If your memory, skills, and connectors live in Claude, Duet gets a big head start.
  4. Do you need to watch it work? If you want to see the browser and step in, Grok Bot does that today.

If you pick Grok Bot, start like this

  1. Install it and make one Bot with one job. My Grok Bot setup guide walks you through it.
  2. Give it a short brief about you and your business, so it has context from day one.
  3. Teach it one task and save it as a skill. See Grok Bot skills.
  4. Put that task on a weekly routine once it works by hand.

Skip the slow part of Grok Bot

Simon's point is fair. A fresh Grok Bot does not know you yet, and building a full team with roles, skills, and stop points takes time.
